Summer Freedom: What Pledges are You Making for Yourself?

Enjoying the Summer Break

There’s no denying that teachers love the summer.

After 10 months of hard work, chasing our tails, and doing everything we can to ensure our students are happy, healthy, and meeting their academic potential, we’re knackered.

So how do you spend your summer? Do you go on vacation? Completely relax? Or do you get caught up in other non-work-related chores? Even worse, do you end up prepping for the new academic year?

Try Something New This Summer

This year, it's time to try something new.

Make a plan for the summer that will make it your best break ever.

What do you want to achieve? Are there any new physical activities you want to try? Do you want to pick up a new hobby or reconnect with friends and family you’ve been neglecting? Perhaps you want to start a spiritual journey to find the inner peace that has so far eluded you.Just think how much better your life could be if you set three goals that would change your life for the better this summer and did everything you could to meet those goals.

Good habits only take three weeks to form. The summer is the ideal time to commit to giving yourself those three weeks and making it happen.

Overcoming Challenges

I realise it isn’t always that easy.

Things can get in your way, or you may face anxiety or a lack of motivation to follow through with your plan.

So how can you give yourself that added boost to get over the finish line?

The Stickk App: A Tool for Success

I've used an app called Stickk that I think you will love. It allows you to set pledges—whether they are about diet, exercise, meditation, hobbies, or anything else. You set an end date and have to acknowledge that you stuck to your pledges every day.

You can even make a friend or family member your referee to confirm you are telling the truth.

And what happens if you don’t stick to your pledge?

The app can be set up to send money to your anti-charity—an organisation you detest and would do anything to not fund.

It is such a motivation!

I have used the app to make pledges that benefit my goal of holistic living for the last six months.

And I have never failed to stick to a pledge. It’s been a huge, life-changing success for me.

Make the Change

Have a look, make a plan, and set those pledges. You might just make the change you’ve been dreaming of by the time the new academic year starts.

Let me know how it goes!

See you next week,

Thes
